Questions leading the students to discovery:
Okay I need everyone to look up at the board. Who has heard of this band? Why do you think that is? Where do you hear about this band/ how do you know about this band? Promotion is a big part of any successful business. So today we are going to look at a few posters I found online. Whether you are promoting a band, team, business, or even yourself you need a professional looking poster to distribute. Here are a few posters. What is the first thing you notice? Would you want to go this event after looking at it? That is going to be the question to keep asking! Would you want to go to this event? The answer should be YES. Whether you use cool logos or colors or names your poster should attract the eye of viewers. You will also be creating a VIP pass for yourself. What is VIP? You will get to pick what special accommodations the VIP pass has. Will you get a box seat, will you get a behind the stage look, will you get to meet the band? It answer is up to you. So take a look at these posters and think about what made them successful.
Demonstration:
Today we will be coming up with our event. You will first need to know who you are promoting or sponsoring. So what are some of the best tickets you have had? What would be the best ticket you could get as a gift? Where would you want your VIP pass to take you? What special things would you get to do with your pass? Today you will be brainstorming ideas. After you have your event you need to decide on a logo for you event, you can make up your own, or take your favorite band, sports team, play, or movie’s logo and draw it out. Next class you will start thinking about your promo poster.
DEMO TWO: What are some things that MUST be on a promotional poster? Name, good. We need to know what even or group this is talking about. What else? A date, good we need to know when the event is (Date, Day, Time)! What else? Place. We need a location of the event. All of these things you can make up. It might be fun to put the event on your birthday! We also need something recognizable about the band on the poster. So today you will be brain storming what is special about you event, why do you want to go to it? Put it on your poster!
Visual Aids: Graphic Design posters for DMB, and other events.

PA Academic Standards For The Arts And Humanities: 9.1.8.A- Know and use the elements and principles of each art form to create works in the arts and humanities. 9.1.8.B- Recognize, know, use, and demonstrate a variety of appropriate arts elements and principles to produce, review and revise original works in the arts. 9.1.8.C- Identify and use comprehensive vocabulary within each of the arts forms. 9.1.5.F- Describe works of others through performance or exhibition in two art forms. 9.2.8.L- Identify, explain and analyze common themes, forms, and techniques from works in the arts.
Assessment Strategy: What assessment strategy tool will I use to evaluate the learning outcomes? Rubric will evaluate their project. Students will fill out a project evaluation sheet that will gauge their knowledge of the project, elements of art and composition.
Correlated Activity? (What art activity will follow) Students will continue focusing on composition and familiarizing themselves with color mixing and blending.
Reflections: I feel this lesson is successful, because it encourages the students to think about behind the sense details of a large event. They have to think about composition and what they like about art. The drawing should test their fine motor skills. The focus on composition will force them to think creatively.
